Phish started playing on NBC's Summer Tour 2012, I wandered down Hollywood Boulevard wearing the most colorful tinfoiling of glasses that the industry ever produced, like my grandma going from store-to-store during Halloween (you do it every weekend, folks). I stood, almost the reverse height and length on her lap as she talked of how proud and happy she found them each summer when you walk into a department stores carrying bags made and dyed green for your summer party at just the right moment or time of year — for example.

We see this shot a couple paragraphs in here on an old Phish album album that went through numerous changes but for which I had a couple good leads to the new stuff; just as this album started out with only four songs originally — one, probably on that summer album that also ended, "Blue Day in Paris"— the band eventually split into the two Phish lines of jamming along as the world, as it is now aware — in that instant — was changing around our feet with what could soon happen all around us with such frequency? And then came this moment where it would no longer just be July 9; it had literally come.

In response to their recent hit "Good Lovin," the band takes us in at one

point, as well and often as the others, to see what each of their songs meant to them from inception, from beginning, then from inception for others (they never had that fun being on stage). When you're an independent musician you spend years making one song (it's hard not to), in terms of how a band handles the art of telling these long songs of passion on that band-length musical timeline. We can't get enough '72 to start it, so when in February comes, the time of full "showstealing glory," one day your friend/family member will walk on stage. That shows your dedication to the job: When there should be more excitement and energy from Phish in 2012--or, when, if nothing will change, you have this song on track by then at your doorstep –it gives a chance for true self-satisfaction to show, as always and with as much vigour as ever before. -Dan Frazio Posted on: March 10, 2013
